#LAWTAKE - AEW DYNAMITE 3/20/24
It’s Wednesday night so you know what that means! It’s a brand new #LawTake from RSC’s Chad Law as he reviews AEW Dynamite from March 20th, 2024.
Mercedes Mone was never the best promo.
Willow looks like a huff and puff idiot
This Revolution will be dope to witness unfold but I need a smoother unwraving.
Julia Harts lights out and then scramble to get in place entrance is not my cup of tea. Pretty much anytime HOB do that I just shrug at the extra long time it takes for any movement to happen before the lights go up.
Too many lights out spots in AEW I really can’t stand it.
Mercedes should stick to “less is more.” Times like this I wish AEW b-lined her right to The Elite so the Jacksons could do the heavy talking.
The crowd singing the words to Metalingus was something I’ve never seen before even in WWE. That was dope as hell. The extended crowd sing along was cut very short due to Christian Cage’s theme in pure dickhead fashion.
Fighting in hockey jerseys in the penalty box was so genius. These guys are good.
Christian Cage is gold. Put him in the world title picture sooner than later. Christian Cage vs Samoa Joe is just as good of a TNA throwback that Tony Khan loves to book.
Every week we can expect a car crash match in AEW and this week Cope and Cage deeeelivereed. Hardcore Copeland is a new one. Pause.
Christian Cage’s mic work was immaculate. You rarely see this in previous I Quit matches. Cage worked this match to a TEE.
Shayna Wayne she so fine I just got gush over here anytime she gets camera time.
Of all the alliances I wanted to see with Copeland, FTR would have made the most sense. Instead, Daniel Garcia & 2.0 are there to aid in the Patriarchy beat down.
Not that it’s random, since Garcia did get defeated by Christian and the shenanigans at the last PPV.
I just would have liked to have seen FTR at least make a cameo and do something interesting other than show up on Collision and tell the crowd about their families and love for the business and they’ll be the next AEW Tag Team Champions. Again. And again.
The handcuffed to the ring post and getting kicked in the dick with feet and barbed wire spike bats is 100% a move I’ve never seen on American wrestling television. If anyone in GCW takes offense, my apologies if I didn’t catch it happening there first.
The lights going out to switch the banner and wording on commentary to “Rampage” right as Copeland was about to deliver a final blow was so funny that it just works for AEW’s whacky production. I knew the overrun had to have been coming.
No funny business, Copeland is (a 2x) TNT champion. His first belt since 2011 at that. Very very great to witness. Badass Copeland defending the TNT Title in Cope Opens weekly is good for business. I feel a Wardlow and Takeshita match coming and I’m sold (more so on the latter).
I can’t knock AEW for trying new things such as Renee being ringside for Eddie’s entrance ala a UFC match. At least they’re dating to be different and not fall in line with their competitors.
Eddie Kingston’s ring gear at any time makes me belch out laughter. You just have to see Eddie in the actual gear with the bell bottom pants shaped like a 55 year-old stud gym teacher.
The Japanese Cody Rhodes - Okada has came, saw and conquered within the first month of AEW. A first in five years that someone comes in and immediately wins a title.
Ala his NJPW beginnings, Okada showed up and immediately won gold and pushed to the top. This is a great choice of path to go for him.
The match itself was okay. What do you expect from an Eddie Kingston match that’s not a gimmick? A bevy of fast chops, sloppy looking executions combined with slow movement on his behalf with the crowd rallying behind him to overcome. Always a lovable character though.
Right call for the International I mean Continental Title being on Okada. Keeps him at the top, keeps people interested, and he has a long line of jobber-to-credible opponents to defeat on a HOPEFUL year long reign.
Okada didn’t look like he was giving Kingston a heimleich maneuver when he hit the Rainmaker this time. I still scratch my head at the insane moves executed in this company with the quick kick outs but a rip-cord clothesline gets sold like a brick to the head.
That first victim - Pac. The former champion is a good call and that match will for sure be a sleeper at Dynasty. Pac is the perfect first, credible W for Okada’s tentative defense.
When PAC’s music came on I thought they changed his theme to “Go Go Power Rangers.”
A meme of Okada being confused at the pyro after the win adds to the hysterical product that is AEW at times.
I’m dead @ The Butcher even getting an entrance this week out of fucking nowhere for his match. Usually they get the jobber “already in the ring” treatment if this isn’t Rampage.
What a good hand in AEW since the beginning. You really forget that Butcher & Blade can go and they should have had a crack at tag titles ages ago.
A perfectly fine tune-up match for Swerve to keep the momentum up. The crowd is eating out of the palm of his hand when the music hits, the entrance is executed, and the ring work is shown at full force.
And the palm of that hand is gone when Swerve talks.
I really wish Swerve Strickland adapted a “less is more” approach when he gets mic time. Painful. The chain, the stumble, the “give me what I want”.. Swerve needs a credible mouthpiece. You even forget that Nana can talk because he just plays dumb and dances. Swerve won’t hang with Samoa Joe on the mic in this feud at all. But the match will be amazing whenever it happens.
How fried is Chris Jericho with this Lionheart gimmick. The crowd reacted most for Judas. Take that away and it’s like “haha it’s Chris Jericho!”
Hook dominating Jericho for a little longer than necessary was great for me. Keep Hook doing squashes until he has to fight credible people. Almost like Wardlow but younger and slimmer and more over.
The biggest win of Hook’s career and first by pinfall, albeit a roll-up. That would be great if this wasn’t against Chris Jericho - someone who’s lost to Takeshita & Williams Hobbs in big singles matches and both have went on to get nothing done. Maybe not so much Takeshita, but you get the picture.
Where does Hook go from here? More Jeri-Hook tag team? Does Jericho turn heel and go back to his old roots and try to teach Hook a lesson? I guess whatever gets him on the Dynasty card at this rate. Eye roll.
It’s more Story Time with Adam Cole BayBay! And he’s mad at Wardlow for losing to Samoa Joe. And since Adam Cole can’t compete for another 6 months basically this is just going to drag. This faction stinks.
Everytime Ospreay does his entrance I imagine he’s going to do some Sami Zayn/Ska dance with his feet down the ramp way.
Will Ospreay was dressed a little bit more serious this week as opposed to fresh out of Soccer practice. Fitting. More promo time to get comfortable. This guy is uuuber over.
Ospreay vs Shibata will probably be even better than Danielson’s match from Collision but who cares it’s awesome wrestling and the crowd is amped. Ospreay will be World Champion sooner than later. A clash versus Swerve will be colossal.
It’s time for the womens tag match consisting of Toni Storm & Deonna Perrazzo vs Mariah May & Toni Storm. More women, I ain’t mad at it.
Match flew by and Thunder pinned Toni off a roll-up before any highlights could really be captured. Not even surprised by this. Sets up a three-way for Dynasty since Deonna wasn’t exactly happy about that result.
Thunder Rosa back in the title picture is best for business too. Fresh, very, you forget she’s basically had a year off.
All this spotlight on the women and we still have DMD and Jamie Hayter waiting in the wings.
Overall a 7/10 Dynamite. The promos were too cringe but the matches were satisfying. I’m rolling.
