#LAWTAKE - WWE SMACKDOWN 3/29/24
We’re so close to this elongated road to WrestleMania finally coming to an end and boy oh boy am I excited for it. Smackdown this week featured none of the main event participants of both nights so the majority of heavy lifting was left up to the undercard. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the laughs of my #LawTake.
Never any doubt that New Catch Republic would punch their ticket to WrestleMania in comparison to the perennial losers of Humberto & Garza.
Street Profits dressed like Libarace is not the move. Them boys won’t even see WrestleMania thanks to this waste of a feud with Karrion Kross & Dollar Store Minstry.
I can see all the parties in that same faction reigniting this feud down the line in another independent company once they’re future endeavored cause this ain’t it.
Logan Paul is doing some damn good work on a consistent basis. He’s holding down the US Title picture and his celebrity status very well. From costing K-O the match to getting chased out the arena, then hopping in a fly coupe & speeding off like a true villain.
Pretty Deadly pick up their biggest win on the main roster and probably overall by pinning Kevin Owens. I smell an RKO in K-O’s near future. Yes boy!
Jade Cargill cut a pretty okay debut promo. The crowd still doesn’t quite know who is she is or what she’s supposed to be doing. You can tell she’s still not used to the quadruple crowd size compared to AEW. Another case of less is more with another popular black talent.
Bianca Belair really is the MVP of any show she’s on. She can have a match with a broom and make it enticing. Beating Dakota Kai was just fine here to advance their feud, to hopefully the end.
Bianca has been in a hamster wheel of feuding with Damage Control and I’m ready for that ship to sail off into the night.
Zelina Vega & Carmen Lopez smoked their outfits and positions within tonight’s faction warfare. This is the hottest and coolest Zelina has looked in ages.
Let me get this right - instead of a faction warfare match we get Dragon Lee, another perennial loser, as the partner of Rey Mysterio against Santos & Dom at #WrestleMania … yeah Carlito is 100% turning heel.
The Latin American Division on Smackdown needs to be split up after Mania, or at the least really introduce a Latin American Championship.
AJ Styles & LA Knight have absolutely dragged this back and forth as much as they can. I can’t wait for their Mania match so we can get on with this.
LA Knight hasn’t wrestled since Elimination Chamber if I’m not mistaken. On purpose or not, I expect their match at Mania to be better than anyone could expect.
Bayley jumping in and attacking Io during Io’s backstage promo was great material for their video package at the big show this weekend. Thats about all to write home about that segment.
Io’s reign has been going on for almost 9 months and I can’t name one memorable match.
Naomi is on Willow Nightingale levels of run-in after the match to make a save then get outnumbered in a brawl.
The crowd wanted Bayley to make the save after the beat down from Damage Control to Naomi and Bianca and instead we all got Jade Cargill.
You could tell by the shrug your shoulders reaction from the live crowd this wasn’t the save they wanted, but Jade won them over with her move set.
Three black women vs two Asians & a New Zealander in a trios women’s match at WrestleMania.
Smart; saves Jade from being embarrassed on a main stage in a one on one match, gives Naomi a match and a potential W at WrestleMania, Bianca is Teflon so anything she does will get a reaction, puts Damage Control on the card, & no Women’s Tag Title defense.
Setting up more feuds for post-WrestleMania is fine with me but I’m just ready for Bianca to really do anything new. If Jade turned on Bianca and they sparked the feud, shit I’m down for that as opposed to another six months of Bianca fighting Asuka/Kairi/Dakota/Io.
For someone who loves to use her mist on people I swear Asuka seldom uses it to her advantage during a brawling segment.
No Roman, no Cody, no Rock, no Bloodline. This was actually a very solid Smackdown when you consider those names were missing. Not sure if I’m supposed to be content about both Mania night main events not being present but shit less is more with those promo exchanges.
I give this Smackdown a solid 8/10 for all of the wrestling we got, the emphasis on Black women wrestlers, and no Bloodline melodrama to drag on.
