#LAWTAKE - WWE SMACKDOWN 5/10/24
It’s Friday night and we are in fact tapped into WWE Smackdown! Enjoy tonight’s Law Take courtesy of Chad Law.
Nick Aldis as General Manager is doing an outstanding job. He could GM another year or two and still have the intrigue of “will he? Won’t be?” In regard to him getting in the ring. I imagine it’ll be sooner, only a matter of when if it’ll be necessary.
Cody Rhodes comes out to here who his next opponent for K&QOTR in Saudi will be against. That being said, Logan Paul… come on down!
Cody and Swerve are really having parallel title reigns when it comes to a giant void of opponents that are credible right out the gate.
Cody vs Logan is actually a great idea, just not right now. I tip my hat to WWE for not giving us the typical runback AJ Styles feud, but wow this feud could be so strong that we could wait. But alas we won’t.
Cody finally gets a new heel that can handle him on the mic and in the ring too, so this will be fun. As of now, I believe this match is NON-TITLE and will just be a champions exhibition. I am not crazy about that as it’s a waste of both title opportunities.
If Cody wins the U.S. Title he’s a Grand Slam Champion and for absolutely no reason he now has title of the top belts on Smackdown.
If Logan wins the WWE Title, he’s a double champion and the most hated guy in WWE for ending Cody Rhodes history story as WWE Champion.
I’m going with the non-title victory for Cody with a LA Knight cameo on Logan any minute now to jumpstart their feud for Cleveland in August,
Naomi vs Nia Jax up next for a QOTR contender match. Nia on Smackdown already feels so much refreshing. Perhaps it’s because it’s more veteran women wrestlers on there that can handle Nia’s wrestling ability.
Naomi would have been a good for a win, but not tonight. Who knows what becomes of Naomi on Smackdown. I hope she just joins any part of this Bloodline fiasco and rehabilitates her character.
Nia Jax is a sleeper favorite to win Queen Of The Ring for me. I’ll see how far she runs.
Baron Corbin is back and Baron Corbin is losing.
But, he’s losing to the newest highlight of Smackdown in Carmelo Hayes who’s sporting a more darker fade on the braids tonight.
Baron Corbin wants to change the image of his last Smackdown run, which was never winning anything. He didn’t start that tonight, which is wild when you see this guy coming to the ring slapping hands with fans and actually being over.
Corbin’s going heel soon and he’s going after Cody for a throwaway PPV WWE Title feud this summer (+400).
No clue what becomes of Melo as his time on Smackdown goes on, but hopefully something good to sink his teeth into if not a Bobby Lashley interaction.
Chelsea Green looks muy Caliente on the screen. Piper Niven looks intimidating. Bayley looks like a high school art teacher.
Randy Orton wants to become King Of the Ring now, just checking things off his bucket list.
Also, he’s going to knock the block off the Bloodline in and outside of the tournament that him and Tama both find themselves in.
Jade Cargill has spent more time in any wrestling company she’s been in, with a championship than without. That’s a stat I feel like only Goldberg can boast about.
Piper Niven had her work cut out for her with this Jade match but it was inevitable for us to see Jade sink or swim in a singles match.
The saving grace for this match was that it’s a woman that’s larger by size than Jade so she’s at least fighting from underneath as opposed to having to look like she’s clueless fighting women the size of a firefly like Kairi Sane.
Jade gets the dub with the Jaded and now the intrigue begins.
Jade moves on to face Nia Jax, while Bianca will inevitably beat Candice Lerae and Tiffany Stratton overcomes Michin. What the fuck are WWE doing having the Women’s Tag Team Champions (newly won) be damn near locks to be in a Queen Of The Ring finals match???? This is as AEW as it gets. But we will wait.
Bianca Belair is up next for her inevitable W against Lerae, looking as golden up as can with the attire and Women’s title.
Shinsuke Nakamura is cutting a promo about basically someone pay attention to me because I’m a threat. Unfortunately, I feel another Cody match coming. Please give me a Baron Corbin feud instead.
Lerae’s been getting by with her heelish ways to get wins lately but the buck stops against the EST.
Solo Sikoa is coming into his own and it’s a gem to see. This new phase of the Bloodline feels like when Degrassi incorporated Jimmy & Paige & Spinner & Emma, “The New Generation.”
Paul Heyman is so scared and it’s priceless!
Solo said he spoke to Roman but I think it’s cap. I think nobody has spoke to Roman.
Andrade having a vignette about him coming soon (to Smackdown) and I thought I was watching a promo from AEW Dynamite from 2022.
Dawkins surprised a shit ton of people tonight with his solo loss to Tama Tongo. Boy is making sure people know his name incase they split the Street Profits up.
If Bobby Lashley and Street Profits became side mission opps against Bloodline 2.0, I’m actually really here for that. Because paired against RKOwens, that will leave the arrival of one more man…
AJ Styles continues to have the worst theme of the night as he prepared for an inevitable L to Randall Keith in the King Of The Ring tournament.
Randy Orton is highly protected right now since returning in November, pretty much yet to take a pinfall or submission loss. AJ Styles didn’t stand a chance.
AJ Styles might as well go to NXT and help Trick Williams out for a quality program because I think on a long line of prime and ready wrestlers on this roster, the end feels near for AJ Styles’ time in the ring unfortunately. Not even based on in-ring work, at all.
Just looking at trajectory, previously… unless AJ wins the US Title he’s pretty much going to be spinning wheels on Smackdown against Andrade for the next two months.
As I type this, Styles vs Andrade for a while actually would not be bad television at fucking all.
This match was as Randy Orton as it could get. He hit all the works, draping DDT, snap Powerslam, fake for an RKO, all of it. Still, a very strong main event for Smackdown. RKO outta nowhere when Styles lazily went for a Styles Clash and Orton moved onto the KOTR.
I’m gonna go with an 8/10 Smackdown. Not the shiniest but everything made sense here. Could have used some more spice but with the way they have to churn out stories for these PLE’d every three weeks, not much long term story can be expected outside of the Bloodline.
