#LAWTAKE - AEW COLLISION 3/16/24
Yerrrr! The kid CL is here to deliver his daily edition of the #LawTake via the Ringside Club. Mandatory reading with this one as I just finished watching AEW Collision on TNT. All comments are appreciated below.
All the Japanese wrestling jokes aside, it’s beautiful to see Bryan Danielson wrestling this consistently potent on a weekly basis. If you were amongst the Yes Movement you remember times when it was dark for the former Daniel Bryan.
Fighting Shibata is poetic just because of Shibata’s own story. A nice gem to make note of.
Watching Danielson & Shibata sit Indian style across from one another and then aggressively slap their faces and chest was actually entertaining on American television. One of the things that make AEW vastly different from it’s big brother up North on Monday and Friday.
These two held back nothing against each other and this was the way to get Collision CRACKING. Bryan Danielson has such an extensive moveset to put his opps away with that you can never ask “when’s the last time he won with that move?” because he wins with ANY of them.
I was a bit letdown by the kick outs for the big Danielson moves, which led me to believe an inevitable roll-up finish was coming - but how?
In a near fall back and forth cradle, Danielson caught the W. Ospreay has his work cut OUT for him at Dynasty.
Nigel will also see his day against Danielson and if it’s at Wembley I’m already ready to shell the money for the PPV.
When Shibata and Okada cross paths again let it be for the Continental Title!
Mercedes showing up might have been the best thing for Willow’s current place within AEW. Absolutely here for this pairing, whether a swerve happens or not.
Trish Adora is earning her keep! Let’s go! Even if it’s at the expense of another loss, this time against TBS Champion Julia Hart (rightfully so).
As long as the TBS division can keep having spotlight and consistent matches, we will care about it. More of efforts like tonight. The Mercedes Movement is underway!
Daniel Garcia’s redemption tour begins. Talk about a big what’s next? It’s almost like DG would have benefited being stuck in the Jerichoverse instead of Hook due to a built in long term story.
I am genuinely unsure of where Daniel Garcia goes after this crisp match with one Lee Moriarty.
Moriarty has gotta be searching for A win at this point. And if he does have wins via ROH or Rampage - I rephrase that to searching for A WIN THAT MATTERS. You know I can get on my soap box about the quality black wrestlers that can’t buy a win in AEW.
Shane Taylor Promotions should be doing more. With a ROH PPV otw next month I’m going to give hope they have some type of program. Perhaps with Daniel Garcia and Matt Menard.. 🤷🏾♂️
Was the crowd chanting “need more wrestling” Or “we want wrestling” during these two locking arms? That was wild random. A first from an AEW crowd if I’ve ever.
Darby Allin’s ankle is legit broken and now Jay White has a sure fire feud to have at any point of Darby’s return. Magic. Hopefully Darby quits this mountain climbing schtick.
Aaron Solo was once apart of a big feud with Cody Rhodes (by association). Tonight he is fish food for the hungry Pac - making his Collision debut much to my surprise and probably those reading those words.
We’re totally getting Elite & Death Triangle AGAIN.
O/U 6 months until Pac is off television again (injury or not)? I’ll go Over. He looked sharp here as he did on Dynamite. I’ll give him a shot.
Claudio Vs Lance Archer would be real solid of a feud if there was a title at stake. Whether there was one on the line or not we are 100% guaranteed Lance Archer won’t win, ala tonight.
In the weekly case of “WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?? 😭😭😭” on AEW programming, Dutch & Vincent joined Lance Archer to take down Claudio and Danielson post-match. Shibata makes the save since Moxley is not available.
You can always guarantee booking at AEW will throw any group of guys, who have nothing going on, to just start shit for the sake of a tag match on Dynamite or Collision.
The other guy from 2.0 not named Matt Menard & Ruby SoHo are doing their backstage dating segment thing again. Poor Ruby. Saraya ditched her for someone even cooler.
O/U the entire year Bryan Keith goes without a win on AEW program? I’ll go over. He will look great in all showings though.
Kyle O’Reilly is back and he looks like he hasn’t missed a beat. No matter what, I still see this ending up with him aligning with Roddy & Adam in the United Empire Kingdom before the summer.
This match went longer than I expected but KOR did just return so he needed to shake any rust off. An arm bar as a finish though? In a company where MJF, Deonna Purrazzo & I’m sure a few others use pretty much the same finish - let’s switch it up. What is KOR’s long time finisher again anyways? Welcome back.
If AEW had a tag division then Deonna & Thunder Rosa would be at the top of the makeshift teams that actually look credible.
I’d be surprised if more than 50 people in the live crowd really knew who the Infantry were coming into the show, but left out of it knowing they were the team that beat House of Black in a Tag Title tournament.
Mark Briscoe taking on the HOB by himself (Team TNA aren’t serious) is a gutsy effort but he plans on pissing off the entire group until whatever final match comes about.
I can easily see HOB causing Mark to lose to Eddie Kingston at the ROH PPV for the ROH Title.
The best type of squash match turned unexpected victory and this was better than expected. Black wrestlers winning, by hook or crook. You know I’m rolling!
Same shocking upset Brody King suffered to Daniel Garcia during the C2, I felt that tonight when Buddy took the pin. Perhaps, House of Black may have found their purpose!
No Cope Open this week, albeit feeling short-lived, Adam Copeland is here to cut a right to the point promo towards Christian Cage. Grizzled, angry vet just trying to knock his old partner/nemesis down. Taking advice from Abyss & Mic Foley, Cope introduces Spike (not Dudley). A giant bat barbed wire 2x4 nail contraption, this is going to fend off the entire Patriarchy and force Cage to say “I Quit” this Wednesday. Word.
Unfortunately, Cope & Cage have become a prime new member of Pack It Up Records. If this isn’t the final match, I fear we’re getting a TLC reincarnation at Dynasty. These two need to get away from each other for the rest of the tenure or until a reunion really seems feasible and/or would make the most sense to matter.
Easily one of the best & fastest Collision shows in recent memory. Crazy to think it featured no FTR or Bang Bang Scissor Gang or Ricky Starks either.
A solid 8/10 show for me this week AEW. 👍🏾👍🏾
