#LAWTAKE - AEW DYNAMITE 3/7/24
Welcome in to another #LawTake courtesy of RSC’s own Chad Law. I had a chance to catch tonight’s Dynamite twice so here goes my brief Law Takes on my second run back. Rather than flood your Twitter feed, enjoy my focused review of the current product below! All comments are welcome.
Swerve is finally a face. We can say this confidently.
But as my cohost of the RSC has made mention -“the less words for Swervington the better.”
We used to think Nana was the mouthpiece, now he’s turned to the dancing cronie, and Swerve feels less intimating every time he cuts one of these “but wait, wait, there’s more (insert IWC hot take here)!” elongated promos. He was way cooler just being a menacing mf’er.
Samoa Joe as AEW World Champion still feels so fucking dope. My man is on a roll and I don’t need this train to stop any time soon.
Cue the Undisputed.. 🥱 what once was a major reaction for Adam Cole is just a collective groan.
Cole playing Professor X from the chair is insane to witness at times. I can’t say Adam Cole’s time in AEW eclipses his NXT run and that’s glaringly obvious.
Roddy is the new International Champion and 🤷🏾♂️ less Orange Cassidy matches I suppose.
Taven & Bennett don’t even defend the ROH titles! They barely even have tag matches..
Oh look they look a loss to Swerve and Samoa Joe in a tag match to open Dynamite. Chumps or champs, you decide. Swerve gets the W to bounce back from Sunday then gets choked out by Joe.
Swap Hangman for Adam Cole and Co and Swerve might have some more feuds worthwhile to buy time until he gets back to Joe. cc: INTERNATIONAL TITLE.
They’re giving us Wardlow & Samoa Joe on Big Business next week. Which ultimately means one of two things - Wardlow is winning the AEW World Title (thus ending Joe’s reign) or Wardlow is going to have ten more matches squashing jobbers on television after he loses to Joe.
Chris Jericho really doesn’t want to be off television and it shows. Mans is never taking a hiatus.
In a long-awaited (by someone a fan of Taz’) Team Taz showdown, Brian Cage faced Hook for Hook’s FTW Title. This belt isn’t sanctioned, so you gotta just enjoy it for being the weekly AEW car crash hardcore match.
In quite possibly one of the best matches of Brian Cage’s AEW career (not his entirety, I am well aware of his time in Impact and Lucha Underground), Hook kicked this guys ass. Gates of Agony showed up after to beat on Hook, so Jericho made the save. Sigh.
Where does Hook go from here? Will he be tied into the Jerichoverse? I guess. Thats never been done. With all title scenes pretty busy, it’s expected Hook and Cage fight again and again until either gets another feud that matters. Hook needs more. Emphasis on needs, not deserves.
Best Friends back to the Trios division is best for that division. Thank you for not splitting up the group while also keeping Cassidy busy after his title loss on Sunday.
Patriarchy time! Usually a Collision staple, it’s nice to see an extended segment with Christian Cage and Shayna Wayna and co. Killswitch came to take a head off and Daddy Magic was the victim. Then shortly after was Daniel Garcia’s head.
“Stupid pants” please God give Christian a run with the World Title this year.
Copeland byke! It’s about time my mans was on his feet after the Con-Chair-To weeks back. Cage/Cope 3 is in two weeks in the 6️⃣ and it’s an “I Quit” match.. giving me immediate flashbacks to Copeland/Balor’s encounter in the WWE. I’m here for this.
Kyle O’Reilly is just gonna be the grateful chill guy in AEW. It’s like Orange Cassidy doesn’t exist LOL.
I WANTED to like this Bucks entire segment… I like the new character change. I do. But did they both guzzle Pepto Bismal right before this because they sounded (pacing and vocal wise) so awkward. Hangman’s suspended, Kenny’s fired. Both from the Elite, not All Elite Wrestling. EVP’s doing EVP shit on camera. Cool.
Eddie Kingston is on deck just ready to fight. I almost wish Swerve would do this. We know Eddie can talk raw emotions but sometimes just get to the fucking point of what you wanna do to the knuckleheads in front of.
Okada turned down NXT and WrestleMania to join The Elite! Woooo! And he’s going for the International Title… which he should rightfully win.
Okada being 3Crown Champ just to end up fighting in NJPW again was such a sneaky +400 featured prop.
Okada dropped Kingston with the most awkward Rainmaker he could have delivered but I won’t kill him for the not so pretty execution. Overall, awkward segment highlighted by Okada’s debut, pop, and an immediate direction to wanting Eddie Kingston’s belts. 👍🏾
Rihoooooooo! Shes back to the highlight of the crowd. Statlander finally gets CHAMPIONSHIP competition. By that I mean fighting someone who had a credible run as AEW womens champion and not interchangeable womens midcarder on Rampage.
With as much emphasis on Stat lately, more than her TBS Title reign even, I see her finally getting the chance to get to Toni and the World Title. And if she stays healthy, damnit she could win. LONG ISLAND PRIDE!
Same time I write this I’m watching Riho beat Stat. Surprise, surprise. Maybe it’s not Statlander time yet. A turn to the dark side with Stokely is probably the best bet.
I’d love to see Willow beat Rihoooooo… but to advance this storyline she probably won’t. Willow doesn’t win anyways.
I’m at my weekly point of the show where I have my “I miss MJF” moment. But I still have a WILL O’SPREAY match to go so I’ll quiet my MJF memories.
It’s 1/2 of the Tag Team Champions of AEW Darby Allin with Tony Schiavone. He’s beat up, he’s sad, he’s grateful, he’s excited. Darby’s got a lot going on. He basically said he might die on television climbing Mt. Everest and nobody has anything else to say but “good luck Darby!”
Jay White and BCG new theme is diarrhea word to Seth Rollins.
Jay White back in Triple H mode with the elongated mic time. He hasn’t been spotlighted much besides repetitive backstage segments so I’ll take it here. They have a match to sell at Big Business next week.
Jay White needs this win so bad. He’s gotta get it. Darby doesn’t need it and he’s going to climb a mountain that’s not for the AEW World Title. Jay White should be.
Julia Hart lays down an open challenge on Rampage. Cool. At least she’s defending.
House of Black are gonna spin wheels with Mark Briscoe for a while. Maybe he could pair with Team TNA for some aid. Or this could be a reason for Jay Lethal to turn on Mark and reignite their loser vs loser feud from the C2. I’m going the latter.
All Don Callis has to do to turn face is bring Will Os under his wing and do commentary during his kick ass matches.
Kyle Fletcher is the ROH TV champion and AO will probably brief me that he’s had under 3 defenses since winning it at the last PPV. Tonight’s match was not for the TV Title because why would Will Os want to be a champion in ROH?
As much acclaim and excitement as Will vs Take got from the PPV, this match could have swapped its place and been just as much if not even more enjoyable.
When Mark Davis returns things will really get heated up as far as United Empire having their teeth to sink into the AEW fanbase.
Watching Will Os fight weekly on American programming should be cherished and appreciated highly. This guy is good. Better than many already.
Will Os vs Powerhouse Hobbs up next? Hobbs could be on his way to his first MOTN/Y contender.
Danielson vs Will Os is just AEW hittin the gas during WrestleMania season. I don’t blame the idea. Don’t wait, it’s needed for viewership and pure wrestling enjoyment.
AEW Dynasty in April is already shaping up to be another banger with Okada/Kingston and Danielson/Will Os as tentatives. I’m sold.
Overall, a 8/10 Dynamite and improvement HEAVY from last weeks laughable go home show.
