#LAWTAKE - AEW DYNAMITE 5/1/24

On this day… I see clearly! I am always watching AEW Dynamite live. Another Law Take for ya head tops via the Ringside Club. Tonight’s in Dynamite in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and boy oh boy was this crowd not the most enticing. Let’s get the show going…

  • 2/4th’s of the Idiot World Order took over the Dynamite intro amidst Tony Khan’s neck brace speech and actually didn’t do too bad with the idea either.

  • Swerve and the weekly multi-colored eyeliner is fucking me up.

  • Swerve/Christian Cage is going to rule as a first program for Swerve. A veteran in the ring and on the mic that will help bring more depth to Swerve’s character. All systems go.

  • Christian has been on a meteoric rise with that TNT Title for the last year and change. I only figured he had a World Title feud eventually. Hell, I thought Christian/Joe for the World Title would have been a TNA blast from the last.

  • Oh, and they kept a story together! Christian remembers Swerve took the L for his team at Wembley 2023, Swerve broke into Nick Wayne’s gym and beat him down, and Swerve is having some daddy issues at home that Cage is about to capitalize on.

  • Swerve/Cage for Double Or Nothing might not main event over Mercedes/Willow, but it’ll damn sure be worth while of a feud.

  • To end it all, Swerve got a dread pulled to be used as a sample for Cage to clone a Swerve Strickland prototype. No but really he ripped his dread out just to give Swerve an even more unnecessary pain after whopping his ass alongside the Patriarchy.

  • I have most definitely enjoyed the Adam Copeland #AEW run thus far.

  • While I do enjoy Copeland here, his matches should not be this long, every time.

  • Now that we’ve seen Copeland/Buddy Matthew’s… let’s not revisit that anytime soon.

  • When the lights go out then turn back on, I want House of Black to disappear forever.

  • Copeland looked conflicted when it came to hitting either House of Bleh member with a chair. Whatever. Eye roll.

  • Samoa Joe returns and lays waste to Isaiah Cassidy. Cassidy goes viral for being apart of Joe’s highflying walk away spot and also a loud shreek as he gets dropped by Joe.

  • Joe on the other hand goes down the ladder and who knows what’s next for him. Perhaps a feud with Hangman when he unexpectedly returns.

  • Statlander went from TBS Champion to quietly jealous sidekick.

  • Pockets comes out to attempt to cut the most serious promo of his entire AEW run.

  • noticeably another longer than necessary match with Samoa Joe to follow up Copeland and Buddy.

  • For those that didn’t watch the Chuck/Trent Parking Lot brawl, perhaps a video montage to remind us why Chuck’s career is “over”?

  • Trent needing a flock of security to stop OC from attacking him was hysterical too btw.

  • Don Callis steps over the Trent heat by trying to console Orange Cassidy? What just happened??? LOL.

  • The FTW Title is just the Unsanctioned match championship and I can appreciate the matches for that; our weekly car crash Hardcore match.

  • This match went longer than needed, which was the case with every match tonight. A night where I wish Wardlow-style squash matches were on full blast.

  • Big Bill helps Jericho win to set up a match and inevitable loss to Shibata on Collision or Dynamite next week perhaps.

  • Who else joins The Learning Tree? We have all 2024 to keep finding out.

  • Watching Claudio vs Brian Cage… did they switch over to #AEWRampage already?

  • Claudio needs a win BADLY, what better person to pin than Mr. Useless himself Brian Cage? Quietly ending The Mogul Embassy works for me.

  • AEW is doubling down on the wrestling tonight which is good but these matches from the OG’s all felt to be going on far longer than needed. All three in order too.

  • Rocky Romero vs Kyle O’Reilly on Rampage is as random of an Indyrific dream match as it gets.

  • Mariah May in the next level of Toni Storm cosplay takes on Serena Deeb, the supposed next contender for Toni Storm in the technical main event of Dynamite this week. Interesting choice.

  • This is tough. I don’t want see Mariah May losing with the roll she’s been on, but the towel throwing works for now so Serena can get a credible W while also bookmarking moments for Mariah to look back on when it’s time for her to challenge Toni Storm.

  • Copeland/Kyle O’Reilly is the alliance I don’t think anyone asked for.

  • Kenny Omega returns since announcing his early hiatus and cut probably his best promo in ages; the heartfelt approach works.

  • “Did anyone here see AEW Dynasty, anyone???” - Kenny Omega.

  • The Idiot World Order consisting of the Bucks, Jungle Jack & Okada Rhodes attacked Omega to end the show and completely ruin any hope of Omega being the new General Manager (for now).

  • FTR took the Delayed Run-In Post Beatdown Title off Willow. Their reason for waiting so long? “They couldn’t take this anymore.”

  • Kenny still took bumps and delivered bumps, which makes us all walk the line of “will he/won’t he” in regards to an in-ring return. If he won’t return, who will side with FTR in the battle against the IWO? Daniel Garcia and a line of jobbers just won’t cut it. I guess (enter) Motor City Machine Guns to even the odds.

  • A show that focused on primarily wrestling all featuring matches and segments all the older talent on the roster, we didn't get a glimpse of any Mercedes Mone. This was a 7/10 overall for me.

  • I don’t know if that was on purpose, or a good, or a bad thing, but no Mercedes at all for a change felt refreshing.
