#LAWTAKE - WWE RAW 7/29/24
It’s the last Monday night stop for the Raw brand before WWE SummerSlam this Saturday in Cleveland. Let’s dive into an extensive three hour showing, shall we? It’s the Law Take.
In arguably the most cricket-worthy promo battle between Drew/Seth/Punk, nothing was really done here to advance this feud other than remind us Seth Rollins might turn the cheek on any outside chaos on Saturday while sporting outlandish referee garments, Punk reaching and reaching on the mic (for a change), and Drew being calm, cool and collected with Punk’s bracelet in his hand. Yeah, Hell In A Cell this feud.
I still can’t believe we aren’t getting a serious feud with Gable and Otis and/or a faction warfare… to instead get Wyatt Sicks vs Gable and Creed Brothers. Ho-hum.
Maxine just gets hotter and tougher every showing. Standing up to Gable tonight put some prime spotlight on her despite the lack of quality in-ring work from her end.
This is the most I feel anyone has ever seen Tozawa have consistent matches on television in his whole WWE run sans his ninja gimmick.
Next week we finally get to hear Michael Cole shout out “HUSKIS THE PIG BOY… KICKS OUT AT TWO!” in this faction warfare match.
Dexter Lumis totally has blonde extensions now and since Bray Wyatt had them previously I can’t joke all too much on a white guy in this company having dreads.
Soooo… the Wyatt Sicks are babyfaces, after debuting and murdering the whole backstage crew? Got it. This group is already going to be middle of the mid-card for months to come.
Sheamus and Bronson Reed could have so many one-on-one matches for weeks on end they might end up just being a tag team at the end of this. It’s like Sheamus has seen and done this before.
Pete Dunne cost Sheamus this match to allow Reed to pick up a win, finally, that probably won’t matter nor lead to anything.
Jey Uso is still on the outside looking in for SummerSlam. Remarkable to say considering how he spent last years SummerSlam.
Carlito has had no choice but to grow on us as a character since he’s not going anywhere other than as a Judgment Day lackey here to take pins and be comedic relief.
Karrion Kross growing his hair and he’s doing a sorry job of resembling Triple H.
After running down the New Day, Kross picks up a win over Xavier Woods with yet another finisher that gets no reaction. He wants Xavier to join the Final Testament so the this enhancement group can get some credibility.
Either Kofi Kingston and Big E return together to aid Xavier Woods or this feud is going nowhere, nowhere, nowhere.
Dom Mysterio can’t beat Sami Zayn and we all knew that would be the case. After this tune-up match for Saturday, Zayn thwarted Bron Breakker’s attack and stood tall with the IC Title. Yep that means Sami’s finally losing that belt at the Slam.
Kayden, Kitana and Lyra might as well be Crickets, Tumbleweed, and Hay. All the things that come to mind when they have appearances on screen as they take yet another L to the Studline. This week, Zoey Starks gets her win back pretty clean after a Z360.
Oh look, Damage Control is back and they’re ready to whoop the ass of Sonya, Zoey, and Shayna. Where are the Women’s Trios Titles when you need them?
GUNTHER and Finn Balor had their first one-on-one match in the WWE and it was a real solid showing. If this was over a World Title (wink, wink) I imagine it could be a credible PLE main event too. GUNTHER puts Finn to sleep with ease after a grueling showing.
Damian comes to save Finn and ends up brawling with GUNTHER to end the Raw episode in old fashion. Still makes me believe Damian could get the W on Saturday, crazy enough.
I gotta say, this Raw was a lot of filler but it did fly by. It’s evident Smackdown is the A-show even though it’s been spinning wheels lately. Thankfully SummerSlam is Saturday and now we can get ready for a Fall reset. Thanks for reading in!
